Road weather information systems (Dsfpdp)

Sensors installed in the travel lanes of highways and airport runways that measure the temperature of the pavement. Atmospheric sensors are placed adjacent to the pavement and measure air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation type, intensity and rate, and the driver's perception of visibility. Information is used to inform motorists and assist public agencies in maintenance decision making. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
