Superelevation (Esushs)

Definition
A tilting of the roadway surface to partially counterbalance the centripetal forces (lateral acceleration) on vehicles on horizontal curves. For trains this is usually expressed as a vertical distance and for highways it is usually expressed as a rate. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
