Flight service stations (Pmfgs)

Definition
FAA-operated air-ground voice communication stations which relay clearances, requests for clearances, and position reports between en route aircraft and the Air Route Traffic Control Center. In addition, the stations provide pre-flight weather briefing for either IFR or VFR flights, give in-flight assistance, broadcast weather once each hour, monitor radio navigational facilities, accept VFR flight plans and provide for notification of arrival, and broadcast notices to airmen (NOTAM) concerning local navigational aids, airfields, and other flight data.
