Detention basins (Pmhpdc)

Basins or reservoirs wherein water is stored for regulating a flood. They do not have an uncontrolled outlet. The stored water is disposed by such means as infiltration, injection (or dry) wells, or by release to the downstream drainage system after the storm event. Also, storm water management facilities that impound runoff and temporarily discharge it through a hydraulic outlet structure to a downstream conveyance system. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
