Groundwater (Rbesbw)

Subsurface water occupying the saturation zone, from which wells and springs are fed. A source of base flow in streams. In a strict sense the term applies only to water below the water table. Water at and below, the water table; basal or bottom water; phraetic water. Used also in a broad sense to mean all water below the ground surface. Water in the ground that is in the zone of saturation, from which wells, springs and groundwater runoff are supplied. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
