Antiknock compounds (Rbfcbb)

Variable mixture of tetramethyl lead, tetraethyl lead, triethylmethyl lead, diethyldimethyl lead, ethylmethyl lead, one or more halogen compounds such as ethylene dibromide and ethylene dichloride together with hydrocarbon solvents or other stabilizers. Sweet, musty, fruity odor. Used to increase the octane rating of gasoline. Barely soluble in water and denser than water. Sinks in water and dissolves at a slow rate.
