Critical velocity (Smdffbv)

Definition
Mean velocity of flow at critical depth; in open channels the velocity head equals one-half the mean depth. Also, the highest velocity at which water may be carried safely in a canal or other conduit without channel bed scour or bank erosion. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
