D cracking (Smfdpmd)

Closely spaced crescent-shaped hairline cracking pattern that initiates adjacent to joints, cracks or free edges, first manifesting itself at the intersection of joints, cracks, or free edges; dark coloring of the cracking pattern and surrounding area often exists with D cracking. Also, cracking that tends to run at an angle to the centerline of the roadway. (Source: AASHTO Glossary)
